Businessman, Novihoho Afaglo, has called on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, citing her alleged incompetence and mismanagement of the 2024 Election.

Afaglo, who is also a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his dissatisfaction with Jean Mensa’s performance during the electoral process.

He specifically criticised the delay in announcing the results of the December elections, which he claimed had already been conceded by the main contender.

According to Afaglo, this delay not only raised questions about the Commissioner’s integrity, but also contributed to widespread unrest and violence across the country.

Highlighting the significant financial investment made in the electoral process, Afaglo, who is also the CEO of Marrer Ghana Limited and Susatgad Boat Building and Fishing Industries, noted that approximately GH¢786.9 million ($52 million) was allocated for constituency elections.

Despite this, he criticised the Electoral Commission for failing to implement adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process.

"The lack of preparedness by the Electoral Commission, despite such substantial resources, is unacceptable," he stated in a social media post.

He further accused the EC chairperson of exhibiting a pattern of incompetence that he believes undermines public trust in Ghana’s electoral system.

Afaglo emphasised that Ghana’s stability depends on restoring confidence in the electoral process. He urged President Mahama to take decisive action by appointing a new Electoral Commissioner capable of managing the office with efficiency and integrity.

According to him, this move would be a critical step in addressing the issues that led to electoral violence and ensuring the credibility of future elections.

"The dismissal of Madam Mensa is not just about replacing a leader, but about safeguarding the integrity of our democracy," he asserted. He also called on the incoming administration to prioritise reforms within the Electoral Commission to strengthen its operations and rebuild public trust.

Afaglo concluded by affirming that strong and effective leadership at the Electoral Commission is essential for fostering peace, stability, and confidence in Ghana’s democratic processes.

He expressed hope that President Mahama’s leadership will usher in a new era of transparency and accountability.
