The Director of Election for the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) James Kwabena Bomfeh a.k.a Kabila has said Samia Nkrumah, a Flagbearer aspirant of the party should desist from continuing to accuse her political detractors of being behind her inability to retain the Jomoro Parliamentary seat.
According to him, Samia was her own enemy as she took certain decisions ahead of the 2012 election which worked against her electoral fortunes.
Samia Yaba Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, feels her failure to secure a second term mandate to lead the people of Jomoro was through the machinations of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She has repeatedly said the Jomoro seat she once occupied was whisked away from her hands by bloating the voters register.
Samia, who sought for re-election, was beaten by the NDC’s Francis K. Anaman with a margin of 3,541 votes.
She polled 18,110 votes, representing 35.31% of the total valid votes cast while Mr. Anaman polled 21,651 votes, representing 42.22%.
The NPP’s Joseph Ewoniah polled 9,630 while Margaret Blay Kenyah of the PPP polled 1,894 votes.
But Samia believes her loss was not genuine.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM, Kabila strongly disagreed with Samia’s assertion, insisting she’s to blame for her own defeat.
He disclosed that the party in 2007 prior to the 2008 elections conducted a research into the political dynamics of the Jomoro area and the strategy that needed to be adopted to win the seat.
Kabila noted that the outcome of the research was duly followed which eventually saw Samia winning the Jomoro seat to become the CPP’s only Member of Parliament in the Fifth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
He added that Samia failed to retain her seat in 2012 not because she was cheated as she claims, but due to the fact that she ignored the earlier research findings.
“When she contested in the 2008 election based on our research work, she secured 19,919 to win the seat. But in 2012, instead of her being guided by the earlier research work, she decided to abandon that and do things her own way and that caused her defeat. No one cheated her, she was her own enemy” Kabila noted.
Former party chairperson, Samia Nkrumah faces off with former General Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet, former flagbearer aspirant and lawyer, Bright Akwetey and newcomer, Joseph Agyepong in the party’s Flag bearer race set for Saturday, January 30 to elect a Presidential Candidate for the 2016 election.
