The independent parliamentary candidate in the Savelugu Constituency of the Northern Region, Sheikh Abubakari Bawa, has abandoned his ambition to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz.
“While stepping down, I endorse the NPP parliamentary candidate, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, and urge all my supporters to rally behind her to keep the Savelugu dream alive. Upon much reflection and consideration, I have decided to step down from the Savelugu Parliamentary race. This is a very hard decision, but I believe it will serve the best interest of our constituency, paving the way for a brighter future,” he said.
He called for unity adding that Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz is the surest bet to win back the seat for the NPP.
“This campaign is not just about winning; it is about restoring integrity in our communities, restoring the broken dreams of the people of Savelugu under the incumbent MP’s incompetence, and building Savelugu for the future. I see that future in Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, the NPP PC,” he added.
He thanked the MP for the Tolon Constituency, the First Majority Deputy Chief Whip, and Habib Iddrisu, who initiated the reconciliation process.
“I truly appreciate everyone for their kind support, including our revered traditional leaders. Your wisdom and guidance have been invaluable. The team is very grateful to the MP for Tolon Constituency, the First Majority Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, who initiated this reconciliation and my decision to step down as an independent candidate.”
Sheikh Bawa appealed to party supporters to stay united to ensure the party breaks the 8.
“We are at a point where we must unite with a shared vision for a brighter future for our beloved constituency, a future that can only be achieved through the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Let’s stand together and pave the way for this promising future,” he said.
It would be recalled that the former NPP Constituency Secretary, Sheik Abubakar Bawah, in July 2024, made a sudden U-turn against the party’s parliamentary candidate, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, and sought to contest her in the area.
Many believed the irreconcilable differences between the candidate and the former constituency executive may have sparked the issue with attempts to link the former Member of Parliament(MP) for the area Somed Gunu to the issue.
