Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, General Superintendent of the Saviour Church of Ghana, has appealed to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rescind their decision and withdraw the current court action challenging the outcome of last December presidential election.
Speaking to journalists at Osiem over the weekend when the Church held its annual convention, Opanyin Adusei said considering the democratic achievements of Ghana since 1992, the nation could not afford to lose in case of political instability.
He said before the election, civil society organizations, the Christian community, Muslims and all other people appealed for peace before, during and after the elections and the current court action by the leadership of the NPP and the media activities following it, was threatening the peace that all prayed for.
“Before the election last year, Ghanaians prayed to God to choose a leader for them and that if somebody had been chosen in the person of President Mahama, we should all support him to solve the numerous problems of the country,” Opanyin Adusei said.
The Saviour Church leader also appealed to leaders of all the political parties to be circumspect in their utterances in order not to create unnecessary tension.
He said Ghanaians could not afford to lose the current peace they were enjoying and that everything possible needed to be done to maintain it.
Opanyin Adusei said, since the establishment of the Saviour Church, it had contributed a lot to the socio-economic development of Ghana through its agriculture activities, schools, health centres and many more.
He said the Church currently had more than 400 congregations across the country. It was established in 1924.
Touching on the theme for the convention, “Call to Resemble Christ,” Opanying Adusei said, it was important for every Christian to resemble Christ in order to do away with the numerous social vices in society.
He urged Christians to eschew all tendencies likely to bring the name of Jesus Christ and Christianity into disrepute.
Opanyin Adusei condemned ethnocentrism, division, nepotism, rancour, bribery and corruption, rumour mongering and back-biting in the society.
He asked people in leadership positions to be humble and eschew arrogance, greed and power-drunkenness so as not to inflame passion of the people.
