P.C. Appiah Ofori has said his party’s General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie should have provided evidence to support his claim that the President and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) were behind an alleged attempt to assassinate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary told journalists at a news conference on Monday March 18, that Dr Bawumia’s car crash on Sunday March 17, 2013 was not accidental.
He alleged that it was a carefully planned act by the Government and National Security with the blessing of the President.
However, the NPP former MP for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, P.C Appiah Ofori told XYZ News that the enormity of the allegation required that his party’s General Secretary provided instant proof.
“It’s a serious allegation affecting the integrity of even the President and therefore he should have established the facts before coming out so that all of us will join in lambasting the President and all those involved, but where he hasn’t got the fact and its only speculative.
“I will advise that they should exercise restraint and wait for the outcome of its investigation so that from there we talk factually to prove that the President and other NDC members were behind the accident that took place”.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has received a lot of flak from both the governing party as well as on social media site Facebook since he made the allegation.
The former Legislator however said it is premature to conclude that his party’s General Secretary didn’t know what he was talking about.
“…If he doesn’t know the facts he has, he will not come out to do this, he is a lawyer of repute…he will not come out to make all these statements knowing very well that he is fabricating his stories; no lawyer of his standing will do that.”
