Essikadu, Dec. 24, GNA - Special voting by security personnel, journalists and officials of the Electoral Commission who would be on duty during the Presidential Election Runoff on Sunday, December 28 ended peacefully in the Western Region on Tuesday. During a tour by Ghana News Agency at some polling stations, 294 eligible voters had cast their ballots as at 1324 hours with few voters in the queue at Essikadu Brigade Hall. Mr Joseph Antwi Boateng, Presiding Officer at the station, said they had not encountered any problem since the exercise started at 0700 hours.
He said agents of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) were on duty as well as a security officer on standby to prevent any violent incident.
At the Christ the King Parish Hall, in Effia-Kwesiminstim Constituency, there were over 50 people including electoral officials, security and journalists in the queue as early as 0600 hours. They waited patiently and at 0700 hours exactly the exercise took off, three voting screens were provided to make voting very smooth and quick.
At Axim EC Office, only 66 people had voted at 1113 hours when peaceful and he expressed optimism that the December 28 runoff would also be peaceful.
