Akim Achease (E/R), Nov. 25, GNA - Former President Jerry John Rawlings has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to have a united front to enable the Party to win Election 2004. He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government would attempt to create political and ethnic tensions but they must remain focused and not fall for any manipulations.
Former President Rawlings was addressing separate NDC rallies at Akim Achease and Akim Oda on Thursday as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
He urged NDC supporters not to give in to negative propaganda being peddled about him by the NPP Government, saying; "December 7 is your last chance to redeem yourself".
Former President Rawlings accused President John Agyekum Kufuor of condoning corruption by not checking "massive corruption among some of his ministers and top government officials".
He, therefore, appealed to the electorate not to vote for the NPP again but rather vote for the NDC to continue with its "human-centred polices".
The Former President also accused the Government of engaging in politics of lies and deceit and advised NDC supporters to be very vigilant on the polling day.
He accused the State-owned Media of bias for not giving adequate publicity to the opposition parties as they were doing for NPP. The Eastern Regional Chairman of NDC, Mr Fred Ohene Kena said NDC Government would always ensure that rural communities got their fair share of the national cake.
He said the government had failed to fulfil its promises and urged the electorate to vote it out on December 7.
