Mr. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Wednesday cautioned staff of District Assemblies to desist from interfering in the award of project contracts.
Mr. Agbo indicated that "some functionaries and technocrats of the Assemblies are much more interested in who gets the contract than how the work is done and supervised".
He added that Assemblies were created for development- therefore technocrats and functionaries should not let residents down.
"You are therefore advised to desist from fronting and interfering in award of contracts, show of interest and personal bias in people or contractors who win contracts through the due process of the procurement law.
Speaking at a general meeting of the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA), he stressed that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council would not tolerate any undue interferences and impediments on the way of contractors who genuinely win contracts from any Assembly.
"Please let those who qualify, and eventually win contracts from this Assembly work without any administrative interference and bottleneck," he added.
The Regional Minister urged them to concentrate on their legitimate jobs and duties to supervise contracts that are awarded.
Touching on other issues, he said he has commenced action to fix the drainage system in the area.
He stated that he was aware that many roads within the District lacked basic drainage facilities resulting in rapid deterioration with the slightest rainfall.
Mr. Agbo noted that his office has been furnished with a comprehensive report on the roads and the nature of works required making them motorable.
