Stop the “whom you know” to curb corruption – Osu Mantse

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, Paramount Chief of the Osu Traditional Area, has said corruption could be eliminated from the Ghanaian society if the “whom you know” habit is stopped.

He said the citizenry should be “the watchers of the watcher” and that it was not the opposition alone that could lead the crusade in fighting the corruption canker that had eaten deeply into the fabric of society.

Nii Kinka Dowuona made the assertion when he interacted with newsmen at his palace at Osu on Monday.

He said the root cause of corruption was by putting square pecks into round holes, and that the government should take proactive measures to curb the habit which had brewed decadence and affecting good governance.

He said the country had gone through difficult times during the passing year, 2013, which ranged from the election petition, industrial actions, power outages, shortage of gas among others.

“But I believe as Ghanaians in one boat, we should put our tribal and political differences behind us and collectively scoop the water from the boat, otherwise we all sink together,” he said

Nii Kinka Dowuona asked the citizenry to lift high the flag of Ghana among the flags of the countries on the continent as the first to attain independence, and to see it as the only country that they have.

The Osu Mantse urged the people of Osu to individually and collectively contribute their quota for the development of the community that they would be proud of.

He wished the people a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year, and called on them to work harder than before to better their lot and the country as a whole in the coming year.
