Akwatia, April 20, GNA - Students who have attained 18 years and above after the 2004 registration of voters should take advantage and register during the impending revision of voters register to have the power to vote.

Mr Gabriel Dei, the Kwaebibirem District Electoral Officer told students of the Akwatia Technical Institute that those who have attained that age should seize the opportunity to register and vote. He was addressing the staff and students of the Institute as part of sensitisation visits to educational institutions, churches and mosques to ensure that all eligible voters were not left out during the registration exercise between April 21 and 30. Mr. Dei said one stood to loose nothing by registering as a voter since the registration was free but one might live to regret in future for not taking advantage and registering now as a voter. The Electoral Officer, however, warned those who have not attained the required age to refrain from registering since that constituted a punishable offence according to the electoral law. He advised those below 18 years to exercise patience since at the appropriate time they would have the opportunity to register and to vote.

Mr Dei explained that the forthcoming exercise was going to be "limited registration" for those now 18 and above and those who for some reasons could not register in 2004, all the electoral laws with regards to registration were in full operation and therefore people should know the laws and observe them. 20 April 06
