Kumasi, Aug. 24, GNA - All the 107 Polling Station Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Subin Constituency on Sunday endorsed Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) who is also the Ashanti Regional Minister, as the Party's Parliamentary Candidate for Election 2004.

This was by acclamation at a delegates' congress held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi and witnessed by some NPP high ranking national officers and Ministers of State.

They included Mr Haruna Esseku, the National Chairman, Mr Dan Botwe, General Secretary, Mr Frederick Fredua Antoh, Ashanti Regional Chairman, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Minister of Regional Integration and NEPAD, Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State for Tertiary Education and Mr Ernest Debrah, Northern Regional Minister.

It would be the third time that Mr Boafo would be representing the constituency if he should win the December elections.

In his acceptance speech, he said he was grateful to the delegates for their continued confidence in him and called for hard work among the Party's supporters to substantially reduce votes for the other contesting political parties in the elections.

"What we have done today is just the beginning of the battle. The honeymoon is over", he said.

Mr Boafo stated that the Government would ensure fair play in the coming polls, adding, "the Minority would not have any excuses for the humiliating defeat they are surely going to suffer".

Mr Antoh told the members of the Party to focus on encouraging a massive voter turn out on voting day.

He said the Party was expecting at least 80 per cent turn out of registered voters in the Region and not less than 96 per cent of the votes.
