Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is a leading figure of the NDC
Supporters of Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have purchased and picked nomination forms on his behalf for the party’s national chairmanship race.
The supporters, drawn from all 16 regions of Ghana, collectively financed the purchase of the forms as an expression of their confidence and support for the former party chairman.
Lawyer Abdul-Basit Adam, an aide to Dr Ofosu-Ampofo, announced this in a statement, saying the forms had been received on his behalf in good faith.
He said Dr Ofosu-Ampofo’s decision on whether to contest the position would be formally communicated upon his return to Ghana.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo has extensive experience in public administration and party politics. He served as District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa before becoming Member of Parliament for the constituency from 1996 to 2004.
He later served as Eastern Regional Minister and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development under the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Within the NDC, he served as National Organiser, First Vice Chairman and Director of Elections before being elected National Chairman in November 2018.
He held the chairmanship until December 2022, when he lost his re-election bid to Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia at the party’s National Delegates Congress.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo was subsequently appointed Policy Adviser for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice-President in January 2025.
The development comes as the NDC prepares for its 2026 national executive elections. The party opened nominations on October 20, with the collection of forms closing at 1700 hours on October 21.
The party’s timetable provides for the filing of completed nomination forms from November 7 to 9, with the National Delegates Congress scheduled for December 19, 2026, to elect new national executives.
The statement expressed appreciation to the supporters and other party members for their continued goodwill and commitment to the NDC.
