The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has said the suspension of the party’s National Youth Organizer and the General Secretary, will not affect the party’s chances in the November polls.

The party’s Central Committee suspended its General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and Ernesto Yeboah for publicly chastising Mr. Greenstreet for his comment on President Mahama’s Ford expedition gift saga. But the Deputy General Secretary of the CPP, Yaw Asani Tano, believes that the development will not negatively affect the party in the upcoming polls.

He argues that there are other party members who are effectively performing the duties of the two in their absence.

“There is already a roadmap on how to secure votes for the Flagbearer, so the Youth Organizer is not the only one who is going to get all the votes, he has people that he is working with so once he has been suspended, there is a second person in command who will ensure that this particular agenda comes on for the party hierarchy to know that they meant well and we were up there working and so it will not affect the fortunes of the party at all.”

Suspensions not an endorsement of corruption

Meanwhile the party has said the suspension has nothing to do with the party’s stance on corruption. Ernesto Yeboah, earlier insinuated that the party’s decision to suspend him was effectively an endorsement of corruption, but the party in a statement asserted that the duo were suspended for bringing the party’s name into disrepute.

“This decision therefore, has nothing to do with the CPP’s position on corruption. Rather it concerns the alleged conduct of these two officers in the public domain bringing the party’s name into disrepute.”
