Take on EC - Wontumi tells NPP

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, has charged his party to dedicate its time to look into the activities of the Electoral Commission (EC).

He observed with gross concern that there is rot in the operations of the EC, especially the current voter register, which he noted is full of inconsistencies that could not guarantee free and fair polls in 2016.

The NPP regional chairman stated that the leadership of the NPP should be critical about the operations of the EC now, to help resolve the anomaly.

The 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, he indicated, are just around the corner and therefore urged the NPP to intensify pressure on the EC to do the right thing before the polls.

Wontumi stressed, “It is a must for the EC to replace the current voter register, which is full of rot, with a new credible one so that the 2016 national elections would be free and fair.”

According to him, the current register is a recipe for chaos in the country, therefore the NPP and Ghanaians, who have the peace and security of the state at heart, must rise up for it to be changed.

Wontumi, who recently toured the United Kingdom (UK) with the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, told DAILY GUIDE that the visit was fruitful.

He said the NPP branches in the Diaspora, notably the UK, are in good shape, strong and ready to play vital roles to ensure that the party defeats “the non-performing NDC government” in 2016.

Wontumi however, said Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s hope of winning the presidential and the parliamentary elections next year, would be a mirage if the current bloated register was not changed.

Ghanaians, he bemoaned, had suffered severely under the President Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, which he claimed, lacked competent and knowledgeable human resource to implement better policies to develop the country.
