Atrensu (B/A), Aug. 30, GNA - Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways was on Wednesday elected to contest the Techiman North parliamentary seat next year on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a well-attended ceremony at Atrensu in the Techiman municipality, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi polled 77 ballots out of 80 valid votes to beat his only contender, Mr. Isaac Kwame Antwi-Bosiako, Headmaster of Techiman Senior Secondary School, who got three votes. Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, former Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, had earlier stepped down as a contestant in the election, which was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.
Addressing the delegates and members of the NPP prior to the vote, Mr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, Brong-Ahafo Regional NPP chairman, said the Party was poised to capture 22 out of the 24 parliamentary seats in the region.
He said the Party would form polling station groups to serve as foot soldiers, who would embark on house-to-house campaign and explain the laudable policies of the government to woo more people towards a landslide victory next year.
Mr. Gyan urged party members in the constituency to unite and address problems facing them to enable the party to win.
