A group calling itself the Central Youth of NDC, has sealed off the Techiman South Constituency office of the party following an allegation by one of its members that the MCE, Philip Oppong Amponsah, had stolen GH¢2 million from the coffers of the municipal assembly.

In an interview with the host of Classic FM’s morning show programme – following the publication of the story by The Enquirer – Hamidu Boye, a member of the youth wing of the NDC at the Techiman Zongo, said the deputy minister for education who was also former municipal chief executive of Techiman South, told them that he (former MCE) left behind the amount before leaving office but the new MCE had misapplied it.

When the host wanted to know whether the said amount was in the bank or sitting in the office, he said he did not know but the deputy minister just told them that the amount was handed over to the new MCE.

Agya Owusu, host of the programme, then asked Hamidu whether he knew that if one is leaving office he prepares a handing over note and that if the case is true, it will be included in the handing over note, he said he did not know of any handing over note.

Hamidu was asked whether he knew that the municipal assembly has bank accounts and that the MCE does not sign cheques, he (Hamidu) said he was not aware.

Reacting to the publication, the spokesperson for the MCE, Mr. Bassit, denied the allegation and challenged the deputy minister to prove it.

After the programme the Central Youth of NDC angrily marched to the party office and locked the door amidst chanting of war songs.
