Tema East NPP chairman lauds Dr. Bawumia's proposal for advanced credit system in educational sector

Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV is praising Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed usage of an advanced credit system to boost the funding of educational infrastructure.

According to the Tema East NPP Chairman, the proposal will help end the current situation where contractors who have worked on educational infrastructure for the government have not been paid for years.

“It is a proposal that I fully endorse because people have suffered greatly as government contractors,” Nene Agbadiagba IV said.

According to him, “this arrangement will unburden the government, bring in private sector money, and most importantly ensure that contractors are paid on time.”

The policy, Nene Ofoe Teye says he is in favor of, is what Vice President Bawumia is calling an enhanced credit system.

Under this system, the government will leverage private sector capital to fund educational infrastructure expansion, reducing the burden on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure (such as dormitories, classrooms, etc.) which the government will rent over a period of years and own after a set period of time. The government will also lease buses for schools.

Recently, the Vice President explained the policy as follows: “This new mode of financing will avoid huge initial government outlays through the GETFUND and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools.”

According to the NPP Chairman, who is also a manager at GPHA, this policy proposal will reduce the educational infrastructure deficit, improve maintenance, enhance the quality of education, and at the same time improve the management of government expenditure.

“As contractors will be paid on time, there will be a knock-on effect for the local economies and the local labor that contractors rely on to execute contracts,” Nene told reporters at the Green Cool Corner in Tema.

“I have been in politics for many years, and I can tell you that at the end of the day, it’s not about having your party in power, but having a government that proposes innovative ways of doing things that make life easier for everyone; this is what truly counts,” Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV said.
