The CPP Continues to Reach Out

Over the weekend, the CPP led by its Chairperson and Leader, the Hon. Samia Yaba Nkrumah, MP continued its programme of re-connecting with the public.

On Saturday, 8th October, Hon. Samia Yaba Nkrumah, who is also MP for Jomoro accompanied by Rhodaline Imoru Ayarna, Second National Vice-Chairman, CPP Regional and Constituency Executives joined the Omanhene of Cape Coast,Hon. Barton Oduro, MP for Cape Coast, together with other dignitaries, to mark the 49th anniversary of Adehye Hall, Cape Coast University.

The event which took place at the Adehye Forecourt at the University under the theme of "The Ghanaian Woman of the 21st Century: Her role in Championing the Course of National Growth".

In addressing the gathering the CPP Leader reminded the "Young Royals" that the AU has declared 2010 to 2020 the decade of the African Woman and told them that the nation needs and expects great things from them.

Additionally, Ms. Nkrumah cited the recent honour accorded to two African Women Ms. Leymah Gbowee, a Liberian peace activist and, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia who were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their non-violent struggle for women's rights, safety and peace building. Ms.Nkrumah expressed her satisfaction over the appreciation of the role women play in bringing about peace, reconciliation, democracy and development. The CPP Chair urged her audience to demonstrate their powerful feminine qualities of courage, tenacity, organizational skills, selflessness and tolerance so that they can be effective transformational female leaders at all levels.

Outlining her vision for Ghana, the CPP Chairperson said it was important for us to "develop a society where gender does not limit abilities but rather one where fair distribution of opportunity and the empowerment of women are part of our development agenda".

Based on her conviction that women must be involved in all sectors of the society for the nation to achieve its full development potential, Samia Nkrumah said in relation to governance that "Political parties must introduce a quota system whereby 30 per cent of district assembly and parliamentary candidates are women." This, she said, would ensure that society was proactive in developing measures to facilitate participation in the politics leadership of the country by women.

The CPP delegation joined in the festivities that marked the day fully including, dancing and singing with the students. The Chairperson also made a donation on behalf of the CPP to Adehye Hall.

The Party's visit to the Central Region ended with attendance at the funeral of the mother of a CPP Organizer at Dominase Abodze and a courtesy call on Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and a member of the Council of State.

On Sunday 9th October, the Party commenced a process of Thanksgiving for the successful outcome of its recent Congress, with an attendance at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cantonments, Accra. The Leader was accompanied by first National Vice Susan Adu-Amankwah, Second Vice Rhodaline Ayarna, third Vice Oteng Anane, Greater Accra and Volta Regional Chairmen, leading members including Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, Dr Abu Sakara, Wing Commander Pat Sogbodzo, and a host of other regional and constituency executives.

The CPP delegation was warmly received by the congregation who joined in singing the age-old CPP victory song. The CPP made an offering to the Church.
