North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has praised former President John Dramani Mahama for his decision not to allow state officials to purchase state properties, a move he has previously emphasized the need for.

The MP said it was refreshing to hear from the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He described it as refreshing news and was optimistic that if President Akufo-Addo refuses to assent to the bill he and other MPs are pushing, Mr. Mahama will address it.

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that no appointee of his administration would be allowed to buy state property.

"People that we appoint are modest; they are humble; they will open up to the people; and they'll do the things that will make the lives of our young people better.

"And so, we're going to hold them to a higher criterion of service. You must not go and buy state property," he said during his media engagement with journalists on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

"Anybody serving in my government will not be allowed to buy a state asset. Nobody serving in my government will buy a state asset. Vehicles, cars, buildings, land, or anything—nobody serving in our government will be allowed to buy a state asset," he emphasized.

Reacting to this, Okudzeto Ablakwa said it is gratifying that the canker of State Capture will soon end under President Mahama.

"It is most refreshing to hear former President John Mahama assure the nation during his masterful, inspirational, sincere, and intellectually stimulating engagement with the media that no member of his government will be allowed to buy state assets.

"We are convinced that even if President Akufo-Addo refuses to assent to our Private Member's Bill prohibiting politicians and politically exposed persons from buying state assets, President Mahama will not hesitate in granting presidential assent when he wins the December 7, 2024 elections.

"It is very gratifying to know that the canker of State Capture will soon be vanquished under President Mahama," he expressed.
