Tamale Central was shaken when thousands of people turned up for a walk in support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The massive crowd, estimated to be in the tens of thousands, was mostly made up of young people, marking a significant boost to the presidential bid of Dr. Bawumia.

The huge turnout, analysts said on radio stations in the north, also indicates Dr. Bawumia's increasing support and momentum in the Northern Region.

Since his emergence as a political force, Bawumia has dealt a heavy blow to the fortunes of Mahama and the NDC in the north, in both presidential and parliamentary numbers.

While the NPP has significantly reduced the presidential margins, it now controls the majority of seats in the three combined regions (Savannah, North East, and Northern), which used to be a single Northern Region.

In all three combined, the NPP now controls a majority of 16 seats out of 31, while the presidential margin has been closed significantly.

In the new Northern Region, which features Tamale Central and the Tamale Constituencies, the NPP shares the same number of seats as the NDC; 9 each, while the Bawumia factor has closed the presidential margin to almost 50-50.

With Dr. Bawumia now standing as the main man, and not as a running mate, the dynamics have completely changed and the scale is expected to tilt in Bawumia's favour.

Many have attributed Bawumia's rising popularity in the Northern Region to the solid relationships he has built with the people and the number of development projects he has championed for them.

At the end of the walk, stalwarts of the party spoke passionately, urging the people to support the Vice President because he has demonstrated that he is a man who can be trusted with a solid vision to move Ghana forward.
