Fomena (Ash), Jan 16, GNA - Mr Kofi Tieku, the 2004 independent parliamentary candidate for Fomena constituency, on Monday declared his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in next Tuesday's by-election in the constituency.

"I and my campaign team have come back to the NPP and we are committed to work for the party to win the by-election", he said at an NPP meeting at Fomena.

The meeting was held in the presence of the National Executives of the party led by Mr Peter Mac Manu, the National Chairman.

Mr Tieku said he was a strong member of the party and that it was due to some problems that he went independent in the 2004 parliamentary elections.

He said the main issue that influenced his decision at that time was no more hence it would be illogical for him and his campaign team to continue to stay out of the NPP.

Mr Mac Manu commended Mr Tieku and his campaign team for returning to the party.

He said it was the policy of the party to extend an olive branch to all its members who had demonstrated remorse for what went wrong, especially during the last general elections.

"We are all one and there is nothing that can prevent us from not winning the 2008 elections if we bring back all those who left the party due to some misunderstandings".

The General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Ohene Ntow, asked the party followers in the Fomena constituency to market the good works of the government to the people.

He told them not to restrict themselves to what the government had done in their community, the constituency and the district alone but other good things that had happened in other parts of the country.
