Accra, Nov 6, GNA - An office of the National Democratic (NDC) Was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Timber Market in the Odododiodioo Constituency in Accra. Speaking at a rally before the ceremony, the MP for the area, Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie-Komme, told the teeming crowd of party supporters and members that he spent almost half of his GETFund, HIPC and Common Funds on the provision of school infrastructure since he assumed office in 2005. He said apart from the repairs of some school infrastructure in the area, he had established computer laboratories for a number of basic and second cycle schools, including the Holy Trinity Secondary School, the Sacred Heart Technical Institute and the Sempe Basic School. The MP stated that, he roofed and completed a canteen at the Ayalolo cluster of schools and assisted towards the building of a two-storey building at the Bishop Mixed Junior Secondary School and three classrooms at the Akwei Memorial schools.
Mr. Tackie-Komme also financed evening classes for final year students of Junior and Senior High School students and awarded scholarships to a number of needy but brilliant students. The MP said he also provided an electricity generating set to the Ussher Polyclinic during last year's power outage period and explained that his focus on social development projects, especially education was because they benefited a cross section of the society, irrespective of one's political, religious or any other leaning.
Nii Laryea Afotey, MP for Kpone-Katamanso, described Nii Tackie-Komme as a courageous MP who made positive contribution in Parliament and called on the electorate to retain him in the Dec 7 elections and to vote for Professor John Evans Atta Mills to form the next government.
Alhaji Said Sinare, a National Vice Chairman, said information reaching the NDC had it that, "They are going to bus people here on the day of the poll to vote" and urged the people to be vigilant to resist all attempts to cheat.
He described the MP for the area as "down to earth" and appealed to the people to retain him to continue with his good work. Mr Dominic Azumah, MP for Garu-Timpane, said a wind of change was blowing across the world that governments could not use incumbency to "cling on to power" and stated that, "Come December seven and the people will say a big no to the New Patriotic Party (NPP". Mr Daniel Okai, Constituency Chairman, appealed to the Electoral Commission to ensure a free and fair election to safeguard the peace that the country has been enjoying and called on the NPP to get ready to hand over to the NDC after the general election. Alhaji Brimah Jonnie, a leading member of the branch, expressed concern about the high cost of living and building materials in the country that had affected the timber trade and called on the people to vote for the NDC to "put the economy right". Alhaji Masuri Ado, another leading member of the branch noted that the NDC won the by-election of 2005 in the area with a margin of 8,000 and said, "This should be increased with a wider margin this year". 06 Nov. 08
