A shocking revelation by Member of Parliament for the Assin Central constituency; Kennedy Agyapong, points to the fact that his government; the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) may have secured the seat in 2016 through dubious means.

The man known for his outbursts let slip his knowledge about the somewhat “unfair” means through which the party (NPP) garnered its 53.85 percent votes from the Ghanaian populace in a threatening statement. Mr Agyapong called the bluff of his colleagues who may want to launch attacks on him and or “disgrace him” to do so at the risk of their “secret” being exposed.

“I mean those NPP people who have vowed to collapse my businesses saying they will bring me down…..if they joke, the things I will say in Ghana….the way we won the elections….We did not win the elections on fair grounds. I am warning them for the last time, if they say they will bring me down, I will be the first to bring the NPP down before I am disgraced”, he threatened.

The maverick politician noted for his scathing attacks on persons who may get on “his bad side” has in several instances, criticized his party for various reasons. Mr. Agyapong is recalled to have among other things, accused his party of being ‘intolerant’ adding that they would have taken his criticisms in good faith if they were, instead of threatening him.

He also alleged that some NPP big shots who had eyes on the Energy Minister portfolio were making attempts to get Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko fired following the Parliament bribery allegation scandal.

He recently accused party members of trying to plot his failure by collapsing his businesses and working against his securement of government contracts which has plunged him in some sort of financial crisis such that he is unable to cater for his children’s school fees. He complained about the fact that his efforts towards making the NPP successful in the 2016 polls have gone unrecognized as he till date, has not received any contracts aside some GHC 40,000 from his colleague; Afenyo Markins as reward for his aid in securing him a COCOBOD contract.

He also alleged on the back of the BOST saga that there was a syndicate behind the allegations. According to him, some NPP big wigs had schemed an agenda to run down the Managing Director of the firm, Alfred Obeng Boateng following his refusal to heed their selfish demands.

Colleague members of his are obviously not taking this lightly as some have condemned his actions. A member of the NPP Council of State in the Awutu-Senya constituency; Alhaji Mohammed Musah has taken on the challenge and dared Mr. Agyapong to reveal how the party won the 2016 polls.

He accused the Assin-Central MP of being bitter because he bided for a contract which was refused him. According to him, the NPP won the election through “hardwork” and not through dubious means like he is suggesting.

“He should come out and tell NDC members our strategy….he should however beware we have thousand and one strategies we can rely on to win subsequent elections”, he added.

National Chairman-hopeful, Fred Amankwah-Sarfo has also called on the party leadership to bring the MP to book for what he terms “gross indiscipline”.
