Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has declared that there are too many local champions in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who hop from one radio station to the other, passing all kinds of comments on the recent happening in the party.

According to him, such persons who are mostly past party executives and well known people, who are highly respected by members of the elephant family have taken advantage of the current turmoil in the party and are saying all kinds of things to create more confusion.

He has, therefore, called on the all such persons, top party executives as well as the rank and file of the party to remain calm and allow the executive council to meet and deliberate on what to do to get the party out of the disorderliness it finds itself presently in.

Speaking on Adom FM’s flagship morning show, Edwaso Nsem yesterday, the Minority leader, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame in the Asante region refused to comment on whether the call by some constituency executives from some of the regions, asking Paul Afoko and Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, National chairman and General Secretary respectively of the party, to step aside to allow investigations into the disorganization of the party to continue.

Constituency executive members from some regional branches of the party, including the Western, Eastern, Greater Accra, Central and Volta regions have already passed a vote of no confidence on the two top officials of the party, asking them to step aside and allow the party to maintain law and order in the party.

This follows calls by some top party operatives since the passing on of the Upper East Regional Chairman, Mr. Adams Mahama Akibila, paving the way for confusion and rancor to permeate the body politics of the biggest opposition entity.

He hinted that members of the minority caucus in parliament are set to hold a meeting in the next few days to deliberate on the issue and, therefore, declined to comment on the issue, saying he would speak only after the meeting has taken a decision on the matter.

Kyei Mensah Bonsu, considered the most influential legislator on the NPP side, said he was hopeful that the demise of the Upper East Regional Chairman, like that of Jesus Christ, which salvages mankind from sin, would go a long way to whip the party into line to unite their front.

He advised members of the party, especially those high ranking officials, to desist from making statements that would further aggravate the present awkward situation the party finds itself in, and rather think of what could be done to help it win power come 2016.

The Suame legislator, who insisted not to comment on the actions and inactions of constituency and regional executive of the party as to whether what they are doing is right or not, appealed to the rank and file to come together as one family, with a common purpose to wrestle power from the national Democratic Congress (NDC) in the up coming general elections.

He noted that it is only when they come together as members of one big family, put behind them their individual interests unite their front and surge on with one purpose that the party would be able to realize its dream of taking over the reigns of power in 2016.

He said Ghanaians are looking up to the NPP to rescue them from the economic hardships the NDC has put them into.
