Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court would on October 11 sentence a trader, Justice Alhpa Benson, after he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to defrauding by false pretences.
Benson was brought to court for forging documents belonging to Star Assurance Company.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Paul Frimpong told the Court presided over by Mr Williwise Kyeremeh that in May this year, Benson introduced himself as an agent of the Insurance Company to Mr James Kuwornu, a Transport Operator, who had gone to register his taxicab at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Accra. ASP Frimpong said Benson promised to assist Mr Kuwornu to secure a policy and collected a fee of 310,000 cedis from him. He then gave him a cover note and told him that he could use the document for one month. The Prosecutor said in June the Complainant went to Star Assurance Company with the view to paying the difference to enable him to acquire a valid insurance policy but when the Company inspected the cover note, it was found to be a fake.
ASP Frimpong said Mr Kuwornu made a report to the Police and Benson was arrested.
