Nana Bofo Bene, Omanhene of Dwenem Traditional Area in the Jaman South District, has criticized assembly members in the area, describing them as “useless and irresponsible”.

He said successive assembly members in the area had failed their constituents in the execution of their core mandate.

Nana Boafo Bene was speaking to journalists after he joined the community members to undertake a clean-up exercise in the Dwenem town on Saturday.

“No assembly member in our community has ever met and interacted with the people”, he said and appealed to the electorate to rather vote for women contesting in the impending District Assembly Election.

“What they only think about is their ex-gratia and sitting allowances instead for them to lead development effort”, the chief said.

Mrs Dora Ama Tamea, the Jaman South District Chief Executive, appealed to the electorate to vote for competent people to represent them in the assembly.

She said the assembly members played vital roles in the development of the local communities as the assembly relied on them in identifying and providing the immediate needs of the people.

Mrs Tamea said because some elected assembly members were not responsive and proactive in the discharge of their mandate, the assembly found it difficult to capture some immediate needs of the local communities.
