Agona Swedru, Aug. 28, GNA - The two Members of Parliament (MP) for the Agona East and West constituencies, have predicted a landslide victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng and Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai MPs for Agona East and West respectively, said this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in separate interviews at Agona Swedru on Tuesday. Mr Agyabeng said the visit of the Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Agona East had rekindled the spirit of the supporters including floating voters.
He said the large crowd that met Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage on Sunday at Agona Kwanyako, Agona Duakwa and Nsaba, the District Capital of Agona East, was an indication that NPP was far ahead of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency. Mr Agyabeng said in 2004, NPP had 57 percent of the total vote cast and expressed the hope that the party would capture up to 70 percent of the vote in the December general elections.
On Sunday, Nana Akufo-Addo accompanied by his running mate Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Mr Alan Kyeremanteng, Madam Grace Omaboe alias Maame Dokono, Mr Kwamina Bartels, MP, Ablekuma South, Mr Kennedy Agyepong, Central Regional Campaign Manager and MP for Assin North and the Regional Executives visited the two constituencies. Mr Obodai who is also the Deputy Regional Minister said the keep-fit exercise led by Dr Bawumia, Mr Kwamina Bartels and others, through the principle streets of Swedru was ample evidence that the area was still the stronghold of the NPP.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his entourage got to Agona Nyakrom at around 8pm, but a large crowd was still at the roadside to welcome them.
He called on members and supporters of the party to bury their differences and intensify their campaign, to ensure that the NPP won both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections with a wide margin.
