Nkroful (W/R), Dec. 26, GNA - Two returning officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ellembelle District, have been arrested over an alleged illegal voters transfer ahead of the District Assembly elections. They are Mr Nicholas Kwofie and Mr Benjamin Ackah.

Detective Corporal of Nkroful Police Station, D/CPL Johnson Dorgbazi said on December 8, 2010 at about 1500 hours, the District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel K. Eshun and the District BNI officer called at the Police Statio= n and handed over 109 Voter IDs, which they claimed were seized from the returning officers. According to him, three people have been apprehended, cautioned and released on bail pending further investigations and therefore called on aspiring assembly members and the public to desist from acts that would lan= d them in trouble. He said the police would not condone practices that would undermine the peace in the area.

D/CPL Dorgbazi appealed to the public to collaborate with the police in ensuring peace in the December 28th District Assembly election and report any suspecting activities by the aspirants. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the DCE said= , he had heard aspiring members in the district assembly election complained bitterly about the behaviour of some returning officers. He said when he took the matter up to the EC office he met the two officers with a number of Voter IDs, which he seized and called the Distric= t BNI into the matter. Mr Eshun then called the District EC officer to inform him about the issue. He later went to the Nkroful Police Station to lodge a complaint and handed over the seized Voter IDs to the police.
