Two more Parliamentary candidates for Amenfi East file nomination

Sekondi, Nov. 24, GNA - Two more Parliamentary Candidates for the Amenfi East constituency have submitted their nomination forms to the Western Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC).

They are: Julius Appiah, a 49-year-old Teacher, representing the People's National Convention (PNC) and Mr Francis Obeng, also a teacher, who filed on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr Reginald Amihere, Regional Director of the EC, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Sekondi on Tuesday that the EC disqualified Mr Osei Kuffour-Omooyey, who had filed his candidature but failed to have his vote transferred to the constituency within the mandated period.

Following Mr Kuffuor-Omooney's disqualification the EC asked other political parties to put up candidates for the constituency, he said. This means there are currently three aspiring candidates including Mr Joseph Aidoo, the incumbent New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament, he explained.

Mr Amihere said application for special and proxy voting and replacement of lost identity cards closed on November 15 this year, to enable the Commission to make the necessary changes in the voter register before the December 7 elections.

He said the EC had started a series of training programmes for Party agents, district officers of the EC, returning officers and their deputies on their respective roles during the elections. Mr Amihere said the EC was 99 per cent ready in the Region and would ensure free, fair and peaceful elections. He appealed to registered voters to turn-up in their numbers to vote on Election Day.

"You must remember to use your photo identity card as evidence during the elections" he said.
