The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the United Front Party (UFP) on Wednesday suspended Nana Agyenim Boateng, National Chairman, and Razak Opoku, Deputy General Secretary, for what they term “misconduct and abuse of power.”
The suspension of the two executives follows a resolution passed by the NEC at an emergency meeting over the violation of party rules and regulations.
It would be recalled that a few days ago, Nana Agyenim Boateng was reported to have sacked Mr. Akwasi Adae Odike, Presidential Candidate of the UFP for corruption and incompetence.
Mr. Samuel Owusu Bekoe, General Secretary of the UFP, told a news conference after the NEC’s resolution that the statement issued by Nana Agyenim Boateng to the media that their Presidential candidate had been sacked was false.
He said the NEC was shocked to hear such a statement because Nana Agyenim Boateng could not single handedly take such a decision.
He said Mr. Addae Odike is still the presidential candidate of the UFP per the party’s constitution.
Mr. Samuel Bekoe said the decision by Nana Agyenim Boateng to unilaterally sack the presidential candidate of the UFP was not only immature, but also unlawful and a display of indiscipline at the highest level so far as the UFP constitution was concerned.
He said: “Mr. Boateng as a party chairman is or should be aware of the rules and regulations governing the party. Hence he cannot just wake up and deceitfully inform the good people of Ghana that he has sacked the party flag bearer on unsubstantiated grounds of incompetence.”
Mr. Samuel Bekoe also alleged that Mr. Boateng in recent times had been abusing his power as the national chairman of the UFP.
He cited instances where Mr. Boateng deceitfully informed party supporters that Mr. Henry Adubofuor, Vice Presidential candidate, Abu Sadik, National Organizer, Listowel Kwesi Poku, Communication Director, David Bunya, National Women Organizer had been sacked.
He said Mr. Boateng had also gone to the Electoral Commission to change the party’s constitution and allocated all the powers to himself. He said the NEC of the party had passed a new resolution to annul all the changes he made to the party’s constitution and replaced the previous constitution with a new one at the EC.
