Press Release
Accra: 16/05/2016
The newly-formed United National Convention (UNC), a political party that sprang out of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced names of some of its national and regional executives. The party which was formed by some leading members of the NPP as a result of disenchantment among them with the current crop of NPP leadership. Though the UNC is yet to be officially outdoored, operatives within the party are busy recruiting people from the grassroots in the Ashanti, Western and Brong Ahafo regions to swell our numbers.
In a calculated move to gain legitimacy and acceptance, the party has appointed some people to man the affairs of the party in the interim. Some positions that have been filled include the National Vice Chairmanship positions, and all regional executives for the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions.
The 1st Vice Chairmanship position is held by Dr Paul Konu with his two deputies being Loe Sarfo and Kwabena Frimpong. The Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regional branches of the party are headed by Awuah Eric and Nsiah Adarkwah respectively.
Dr Paul Konu, the 1st National Vice Chairman is happy to be part of the United National Convention family because of the UNC’s youth-focused agenda and a vision to empower Ghanaian businesses and industries presented the biggest chance for Ghana to wean itself out of poverty. He reiterates that, the UNC represented the best alternatively to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the NPP that should be working to wrestle power from the NDC is busily sacking its elected national executives and the members fighting among themselves.
In his view, the decision of people like him to move out of the NPP and to join the UNC was borne out of the lack of direction and a sense of presence exhibited by the current crop of the NPP leadership. “How can you have a party that, five months to a crucial general elections, is yet to come out with any meaningful campaign message” he quipped. “Look at the front of the NPP now, it is a broken, disunited front” he added. He intimates that he and his team would formulate policies that will provide a sound foundation for the UNC so as to prepare it to assume the reins of government come January 2017. “We will work to wrestle power from the NDC, failure to achieve this, we are sure to be the kingmakers in the November polls” Dr Konu states.
Whilst in the process of gathering the necessary documentation and undertaking the needed paperwork for registration with the Electoral Commission, the party is feverishly working to recruit and to broaden its supporter base.
All communications to the party must be routed through the under-signed executives.
The list of the National Chairman, Flagbearer, Running mate, General Secretary and the rest of the other EXECUTIVE members shall be released in due course
Thank you.
