Upper East NDC elects new leaders

Bolgatanga, Dec. 5, GNA - The Upper East regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba as its new chairman to head a new executive at their 5th Biennial regional conference held in Bolgatanga.

Alhaji Bolnaba polled 52 votes to beat incumbent chairman Alhaji Patience Abubakari, who had 29 votes.

The post of Vice Chairman went to Mr. Richard Aduah who polled 49 votes to beat his contestant, Alhaji Gariba Awudu, who got 29 votes after a second round of voting. In the first round, both polled 41 votes each.

Mr. Donatus Akamugri retained his post as Regional Secretary with 70 votes against his challenger Batholomew Atiah who had 13. Mr. James Abanka polled 60 votes to beat Mr. Zakari Labaliah who had 21 votes, to become the deputy secretary while Mr. David Aruk got 37 votes against that of Alhaji Sulemana and John Tenkurug who got 20 and 27 votes respectively to become the Regional Organiser. Officials from the Regional Office of the Electoral Commission supervised the elections.

Swearing in the elected Officers, Mr. Abuga Pele, Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, advised the winners not to work with the losers, who he said, remained part of the team that needs to work for victory in 2008.
