Bolgatanga, Nov. 17, GNA - Mr Donald Adabre a leading Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Wednesday expressed optimism that the NDC would wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2008 elections.

Speaking at the NDC Youth Congress held at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to elect the Party's Regional Youth Organiser, Mr. Adabre said the NPP had failed to salvage Ghanaians from their economic hardships as promised in their campaign message, but rather worsened the plight of Ghanaians.

Mr Adabre former Upper East and Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister during the NDC regime, indicated that complaints of hardships from the labour and the market fronts were all attesting to the plight of Ghanaians, stressing that many salaried workers cannot make ends meet. He impressed upon Ghanaians to vote the NDC back to power to enable it redeem them from the economic depression they were going through. Mr Adabre called on the party's youth and supporters to work assiduously to enable the party recapture power in 2008, saying that with unity, dedication and commitment, the youth should be able to bring the party to victory in 2008.

Mr Adabre admonished the youth to eschew backbiting, bickering and unite with a common front to champion the cause of the party, emphasising that "it is written boldly and clearly that the NDC would win the 2008 election and needs the support from you because you have the numbers."

He said the party in the 2008 election would use trained and literate party agents who would not only be vigilant at the polling stations, but also could identify all election tricks and withstand all forms of intimidation.

Mr Clement Akansoba, a teacher, was elected the Regional Youth Organiser.

He polled 42 votes to beat the incumbent, Mr John Tong-Kurug, who had 25 votes.

Mr Alhassan Abugbila was elected unopposed as the Deputy Regional Youth Organiser.

Mr Akansoba thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard for the party to recapture power in 2008. He, however, called for support and co-operation from party members to enable him steer the affairs of the party. Mr Akamugre Donatus, Upper East Regional Secretary of the party, explained that congresses should not be seen only as occasions to elect party executives but should also be used to review and deliberate on party activities.

He urged the youth to bury their political differences and work hard towards achieving victory for the party in 2008.
