Upper West Minister interacts with elders, opinion leaders in Wa

Wa, June 17, GNA - Mr Ambrose Dery, the Upper West regional Minister has began a series of interactions with community leaders and worshipers at Various Mosques in the Wa Municipality to know their problems, explain government policies and spell his vision for the region to them.

During one of the meetings with the elders and opinion leaders of the Zongo community in the Municipality, he called for unity and peace to prevail in the town in order not to divert the attention of the government from its development agenda to the management of conflicts. He told them to direct their activities towards promoting peace and development and avoid unnecessary political rivalries, which could lead to breach of the peace. He said he was running an open and transparent administration and was ever ready to receive their complaints and advice.

Addressing worshippers at the Kbanye Mosque after Friday prayers, Mr Dery urged them to regard secular education as one of the pillars in the eradication of poverty. He was happy that secular education was running side by side in the form of English/Arabic Schools in the Municipality and urged them to enrol more of their children into these schools.

Efforts, he said were being made to rehabilitate all the schools that were destroyed by the recent rainstorms in the town with majority of them already given out to contractors to work on and work was in progress. The Regional Minister paid similar visits to the Wa Central Mosque, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque, the Zongo Mosque, while a 20-member delegation from the Busa community called on him at his office to assure him of their support for his administration.
