The Vibrant Youth Movement (T-VYM) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to winning and losing parliamentary candidates of the party to put the primaries behind them and work in unity.
The Movement said candidates, who were hopeful of winning but lost, must show by their deeds and rally their followers together and help in the campaign to bring the party back to power.
This was contained in a press release dated, August 23, and signed by Nana Kwame A. F. Boa-Amponsem Addai, Founder and National Coordinator of the Movement.
The Movement pleaded with the supporters of the winning candidates to desist from acts that ridicule and demonise the losing teams in addition to name calling, issuing of statements and threatening messages.
“NPP believes and practices democracy; and in a democratic system there is always a competition; and in every competition, there is always a winner and a loser, so please let’s stop all the negativity and forge a good interpersonal relationship amongst us”.
It said “however, fair or unfair, the parliamentary primaries were, it is all over and the homework begins after the 2016 elections”.
The Movement also appealed to the NPP’s leadership at all levels to stop the personal attacks and mistrust amongst themselves to enable them to forge a united front ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“We wish to remind all that we are still in opposition and for that matter we cannot continue to cast aspersions at ourselves and wash our dirty linens in public and still expect the good people of Ghana, who from all indications are ready to give us their mandate, to smile at us when we go to them God willing in some few months to sell our messages to them”, it stated.
The T-VYM urged party leaders to rather channel their energies to giving Ghanaians the NPP’s alternatives to the poor socio-economic programmes that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had failed to deliver under their ‘Better Ghana Agenda’.
The statement said leadership must remember that the NDC has nothing concrete to campaign on against the NPP, and would therefore use such attacks as missiles for campaigning for the elections.
