Samson Sarfor, a 38-year-old blind man, has been sentenced to a fine of ?200,000 for stealing by the Kaneshie Community Tribunal, chaired by Mr Samuel K. Dagadu.

Sarfor will go to jail for six months if he fails to pay the fine. According to the prosecution, Sarfor is blind in one eye while the other is blurred. He said Sarfor went to the offices of Kingdom Transport Services, holding a handbag like other travellers.

He said after loitering around the station for some time, Sarfor went to one of the offices and asked of an official who was not present at work that day.

According to the prosecution, Sarfor left the office and strolled around the station for a while and left.

After his departure, the Transport Officer realised that the company’s Casio electronic calculator was missing. He quickly informed the security supervisor, who chased after and confronted Sarfor, who was trying to mix with a thick crowd around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

He was handed over to the Neoplan police post, where, after investigations, he admitted to having stolen the calculator, which he brought out of his clothes.
