The Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in serious trouble as leaders of the party in the region are allegedly calling for his head.

His predicament is fueled by an allegation by a resident of Ho, the regional capital, who calls himself “Humble African,” that Hope Nyavedzi, the Deputy Youth Organiser, was mobilizing the youth in the region to demonstrate against the governing NDC.

The allegation, which was made on Ho-based US Fm last week Monday, DAILY GUIDE gathered, stoked fire among some NDC members and executives in the region.

According to Humble African – who is a cab driver and ardent caller into radio programmes in the capital – Hope, together with other leading members of the party and an elder of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region, were the key architects of the plot.

Humble African claimed that the agenda was welcomed by many young people in Ho and other highly placed opinion leaders who pledged unflinching support to the cause. To this end, he alleged, Hope and others arranged to have a meeting at the Pensioners’ Hall to formulate what should be the basis for the demonstration.

However, this paper was informed, on the day of the scheduled meeting, Hope Nyavedzi and the other architects of the plot failed to show up.

The allegation sent heads rolling and injected some doses of fear and panic among party leaders and government appointees who called Hope Nyavedzi to order and seriously warned him, sources close to the party hinted.

Exactly a week later (5 May, 2014), Hope ran to the same radio station to deny the allegation and stated that the speculation had put him in serious trouble. He said, “It wasn’t easy for me oh. When my people heard this, it wasn’t easy for me.”

He said the allegation was gradually derailing his position as the Deputy Regional Youth Organiser and his intention to vie for the substantive youth organizer slot. He flatly denied the allegation by Humble African saying, “It is not true”. He quizzed, “How can I demonstrate against the government; what is the essence…? It is not possible.”

He explained that he merely knew Humble African as a serial caller and had no personal relationship with him until he (Humble African) called him (Hope) after a passionate discussion on the development of the region on Kekeli Radio, also in Ho.

He said on the programme, “They thought it wise as youth to hold an open discussion to seek the minds of people so that we can see how we can push it forward to attract the needed support for the region.” It was after this that Humble African met him and expressed interest in the agenda, Hope said.
