The Volta Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on his elevation to the office of the Vice President
A statement signed by Mr. Simon Amegashie-Viglo, Volta Regional Secretary of the Party, described Mr. Amissah-Arthur as “compatible, loyal and competent.”
It said the NDC in the region “accepts and respects the President’s constitutional mandate and discretion to nominate Mr. Amissah-Arthur.”
The statement said the expression of reservation and disapproval from some quarters were in consonance with the Party’s “recent political history” and must be taken in good faith.
“It is instructive to recall that when then President Jerry John Rawlings nominated Prof. J.E.A Mills in 1995, when then Candidate John Agyekum Kufuor nominated Mr. Aliu Mahama in 2000 and when then Candidate Mills nominated Mr. John Mahama in 2007, there were expressions of reservation and disapproval from some people who felt the nominees did not deserve the position,” it said.
The statement said these nominees proved their worth as credible vice presidents of Ghana.
The statement reminded Ghanaians of US President Barrack Obama’s statement that “Africa does not need strong men, but strong institutions in the 21st century political engagements.”**
