Wa East NDC Executives call for party unity to win seat

The Wa East Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are calling on its members to join forces in unity to enable the party take away the Wa East Parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general elections.

The call went especially to those who contested Mr. Ameen Salifu during the party’s Parliamentary primaries in 2007 and in 2012.

These personalities are Mr. Mohammed Saani Seidu, Mr. Mankama Ahmed and Alhaji Issahaku Saliah, a former Member of Parliament (MP) and the immediate former Upper West Regional Minister.

The Executives made the call during a press conference held at Wa at the weekend.

Mr. Issahaku Munawar, the Wa East Constituency Secretary who addressed the conference, said as part of their determination to unite everybody in the party, they had included the three respected personalities in the central campaign team and appealed to them to share their experiences for them to win the seat from the NPP.

On development, Mr. Munawar said, the Wa East District had witnessed an unprecedented social, economic and infrastructure development under the President Mills government.

He mentioned the expansion of the School Feeding Programme from three schools to over 20 schools in the district, the construction of four CHPS compounds and the provision of equipment for seven others to improve on the health status of the people, as some of the unprecedented achievements of the Mills government in the district.

Mr. Munawar said the expansion of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to cover more models and the introduction of the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) as well as the Youth Enterprises and Skills Development Centre (YESDEC) gave jobs to the many youths in the district.

On roads, he said the construction of the Ducie-Gurumbelle road, Goripie-Gilan road, Bulenga-Kolikpong road, Baryiri-Kpari road, Kpari-Duu road and Loggu-Kalaachi road among others in the districthave not only opened up the area to economic activities, but have also made traveling to the areas easy.

Touching on education, Mr. Munawar said the opening of a new Senior High School (SHS) coupled with the construction and rehabilitation of 26 six-unit classroom blocks, 21 three-unit classroom blocks, five teachers’ quarters, as well as the refurbishment of 16 basic schools, had left a good sense of feeling among the people of the district towards the NDC government.

He said the extension of electricity from Sakae in the Sissala East District to Funsi, the Wa East District Capital, including the 26 out of 53 other communities that had been wired and waiting to be powered clearly demonstrated the President’s commitment to develop the Wa East District at a faster pace.**
