The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kade, Hon. Ofosu Asamoah has observed that considering the rationale the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assigned for its ?wahala march?, renders the exercise useless, as well as misleading. He wondered how the death of Ya Na and Mobilla, the CPP chairman, though painful, could affect the economy.
In an interview with pressmen last week in Parliament House, the MP noted that the NDC, even proposed an increment in the price of petroleum products, before the 2004 general elections. Hon Ofosu Asamoah indicated that about four years before, the price of a barrel of crude oil was $28 dollars as against $52 dollars this year. He hinted that with this upward adjustment in the price of crude oil, it was only prudent for government to increase the price.
Significantly, for NDC to embark on ?wahala march? over the increase in the price of petroleum products, smacks of mischief, more so, when the party itself had proposed an increment in petroleum products earlier.
Hon. Ofosu-Asamoah did not understand, also, why former President Jerry John Rawlings should shorten his visit to South Africa, only to partake in a useless ?wahala? march, together with his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. The MP contended that it was not, even necessary for the former president, as a statesman, to embark on this demonstration, at all. ?Would Clinton even demonstrate against Bush?? He asked in amazement.
Hon. Ofosu-Asamoah wondered how the former president claimed to care for the poor by embarking in on ?wahala march?, while he has garaged several cars and buses n his house ? the jaguars and all.
?Why doesn?t he give out the buses in his house to be used for mass transport, to benefit the poor, for whom he is embarking on a ?wahala? demonstration? he quizzed. He challenged the former president to come out with how much he has personally contributed to the poor in society. Also now that his daughter, Ezanetor Raawlings has become a medical doctor, he should allow her to work in the rural areas for the poor, to give real meaning to his claim that he has the poor at heart.
