Walewale finally gets DCE

The President’s nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position for West Mamprusi in the Northern Region, David Wuni, last Friday received an overwhelming endorsement from assembly members.

The 41-year-old professional teacher received hundred percent confirmation by the assembly members of the Walewale District Assembly who earlier outrightly rejected a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Alhaji Iddrisu Alidu Zakaria, when his name came up for the same position.

His rejection by members of the assembly was based on allegations that he was not neutral and could not serve the purpose of the assembly.

The president subsequently appointed David Wuni as the new DCE, and he was given the nod by the assembly members who indicated that he is not so well-known in the area, hence his endorsement.

Addressing the assembly, the DCE-elect acknowledged the task ahead of him, saying, “It is enormous” and promised to work hard to improve the living conditions of the people. He also promised to operate in an open door administration to ensure speedy development in the area.

Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna before the confirmation appealed to the assembly members not to disgrace him like they did some three months ago. He was literally on his knees as he told the assembly members that if they make him ‘cry’, they would also cry during the upcoming district level election schedule on March 3, 2015 where all of the assembly members are seeking re-election.

Alhaji Limuna advised the DCE elected to be people- centered and not to allow himself be consumed by the position he is occupying.

The election was supervised by the Deputy Regional Director of Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bayobio.

It would be recalled that earlier this month, the chief of Wungu Traditional Area, Wungu Naa, Alhaji Sulemana Saaka Zooni, appealed to the president through the Local Government Minister, Julius Debra, to appoint a DCE for the West Mamprusi District Assembly after the former DCE was fired.

The chief mentioned that the absence of the DCE is affecting the development in the area, and therefore, appealed to the president to hasten the processes leading to the appointment of a new DCE which was accordingly done last Friday.
