The campaign of the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, just received a significant boost as the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, appears to have joined his campaign.

The Assin Central MP, who competed closely for the flagbearership with Bawumia, was one of the NPP bigwigs who accompanied Dr. Bawumia to Suame on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, as part of the Vice President's 3-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region.

The crowd's reaction to Kennedy Agyapong’s appearance at the Suame Market indicates the impact his support would have on the Vice President.

A video seen by GhanaWeb showed the excitement at the market when Kennedy Agyapong ascended a storey building being used as a stage for the campaign event.

Also, present at the event were the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, NPP National Chairman Stephen, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and the Vice President himself.

Kennedy Agyapong’s appearance follows a statement by a leading member of his campaign team and convener for Citizen Eye, Ghana, Alex Tetteh, who revealed that the Assin Central legislator would soon join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team.

According to him, the businessman was currently in the United States of America and would return in the coming weeks to support the New Patriotic Party towards victory.

"Kennedy Agyapong is currently in the United States of America. He will be back soon and will join the campaign to help Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia become president. He said after the primaries that he would join the campaign, and that is what he will do," he said.

"We even suggested that he go independent, but he didn't see our advice as sensible. Kennedy is an institution, so he chose to remain with the party, unlike Alan Kyerematen, who chose to depart after losing."
