The Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi, is filled with excitement as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to unveil a son of Asanteman, Minister for Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), as its vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.

Most of the residents of Kumasi who spoke to GhanaWeb's team on the ground were pleased with the party's decision to make NAPO the running mate of NPP Flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and promised to vote for the party come December 7.

However, at a market close to the Manhyia Palace, not all the residents were pleased with the performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

While some market traders praised the government, particularly for implementing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, others complained about the harsh economic conditions in the country.

The debate got tense at one point when GhanaWeb's Nimatu Yakubu engaged a group of market women.

Some of them sang the praises of the government, while others bitterly campaigned about the hardships they were experiencing.

"Since Nana came, our work has been really going well," one mango seller said.

Another mango seller sitting nearby said, "Since Nana came, we can't even prepare stew. GH¢200 is not enough to prepare a pot of stew. You need GH¢50 just to buy pepper."

The mango seller who spoke first and some other sellers insisted that things were going well for them.

This infuriated the lady who said it was impossible to prepare a pot of stew, which led to her snatching the microphone to express her displeasure.

"We are suffering in this country. We are sitting on money, but we are hungry. We can't buy pepper, we can't buy onions, we can't buy tomatoes. We are suffering," she lamented.
