CENTRAL AYAWASO NDC DECLARE

Some youth, executives and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Ayawaso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, are calling for one Mr. Franklin Mensah to be chosen as the Parliamentary Candidate of the area to win the seat for the party.

Speaking to The Daily Democrat in separate interviews, they stated that the party’s fortunes would be enhanced by the candidature of Mr. Mensah, who has demonstrated his love for the constituency and readiness to see to its development when given the mandate.

According to them, he is the only person who has the qualities and wherewithal to wrestle the seat from the NPP after several attempts in the past failed, adding that the time has come for the NDC to take over the reins of governance of the Ayawaso Central Constituency for its proper development after many years of neglect.

A fact-finding mission by The Daily Democrat revealed that Mr. Franklin Mensah is a home-bred son of the constituency, having lived in Accra New Town, a strategic area in the constituency for decades. According to some sources, he attended the Accra New Tow Experimental School and continued his education at the West Africa Secondary School.

He left the country to pursue higher education, gaining his Degree in Engineering and later his Masters in Finance. Having attained his aim of acquiring knowledge to serve mankind, the sources narrated, he came back to Ghana and is currently working with one of the most prestigious financial institutions in the country.

Mr. Franklin Mensah, who is fast gaining popularity in the Ayawaso Constituency for his benevolent gestures, last year brought a team of some forty (40) medical doctors to screen residents of Accra New Town, Alajo and other surrounding areas with resources from his own pocket. He replicated the act this year when the team came once again to save the sight of his people, and relieve them of their health challenges.

The Daily Democrat further found out that, Mr. Mensah single-handedly funded the painting of his alma mater, Accra New Town Experimental School and did the same at the Mallam Atta Market Day Care Centre, where traders drop off their wards for education and pick them up after trading.

“He has put in place a scheme to bring together local doctors to attend to the health care needs of the residents, and we are told he would be organizing one of such sessions this month (August),” a resident told this paper, extolling him for his benevolence.

“If he can do this from his own resources, then there is the likelihood that he would do better when he is given some resources; as the saying goes, ‘a game’s beauty is known from its beginning,” another resident of Alajo said.

Some youth in the area, who have benefitted from Mr. Mensah’s projects, said the annual medical mission does not only solve their health problems, but also puts money in their pockets, since they receive some allowances for the voluntary work they do.

There are speculations that he is being prevailed upon by some leaders and many members of the party in the constituency to offer his candidature for election when nominations are opened but he has not made his intentions clear.

The Daily Democrat is still making efforts at reaching him for his reactions on the views of his constituents and would keep readers updated.
