The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has expressed confidence of winning hands down, the presidential and parliamentary polls in November or at worst push the presidential election to a second round.
The Party’s parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Mr. Frank Aboagye Danyansah, who said this to the Ghana News Agency, however, maintained that PPP’s confidence is not borne out of “do or die” affair or “at all cost.”
The party would take over the reign of the Presidency owing to business track records of its leadership, he said, and a raft of measures being instituted at all levels of the party’s structure including promotion of issued-based campaign to canvass votes.
“We are working very hard to win the upcoming elections or at worse push it to a second round. Let me emphasise that this is not a ‘do or die affair’, it is purely going to be on our well-packaged and clear campaign message to the voting public,” he said.
He said the party has an elaborate plan to tackle the country’s health and educational problems and deal with pervasive corruption in the public sector as well as introduce radical reforms to ensure that metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives are elected.
Mr. Danyansah noted that the campaign grounds are very fertile for the party’s takeover of office in 2017.
He said the party aims to capture 400, 000 votes and 10 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region.
He called on the youth to as a matter of concern and patriotism to reject any inducement that has the tendency to trigger violence before, during and after the elections.
“All those who are beating the war drums and promising gifts or giving you money have sent their children abroad,” he said, admonishing the youth not to engage in any violent acts.
He implored the Electoral Commission and its Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, to remain neutral and work hard at realising the constitutional mandate of the commission in order to win the trust of Ghanaians.
Mr. Danyansah said: “I advise Mrs. Osei to be bold and focused, and wean herself from the supposed political tag.”
“If you are able to hold this election neutrally and professionally, it will be to your own advantage but if there is chaos or misunderstanding afterwards, you and your people will be blamed.”
