Independent Presidential hopeful Marricke Kofi Gane has joined calls for the Ministry of Health to offer convincing explanations on Ghana’s sudden hike in Coronavirus recoveries.

According to him, it is important that the government explains what has accounted for the close to 1000 recoveries from the virus as reported over the weekend.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Friday released its figures on the disease and it showed that over 1000 more people are recovering from the disease in Ghana.

The Coronavirus recoveries increased from 674 as reported on Friday to 1,460.

The development sparked some doubts with a section of Ghanaians questioning the authenticity of the recovery figures.

In an interview on Bolgatanga based Yem Radio, Marricke Gane said “We are asking questions about whether the treatment has changed. If it is the same thing we have been doing over the past months, how is it that suddenly the statistics jumped that high. That is all we are asking”.

He argued that Ghanaians need to know if there have been any changes in the mode of treatment for COVID-19 in Ghana.

“Don’t just say to us that we have jumped from 8% recovery rate to 30% recovery rate and that is it, it ends there. We are not fools. People have to ask questions and for many weeks throughout this entire process, some of the numbers have been inconsistent and we have continually asked questions. This is one big question to the list of questions we have been asking,” he added.

Mr. Gane expressed worry that the government is slowing down on the fight against the virus and focusing its attention on the economy, a situation he said could have consequences.
