The aftermath of the December 7 elections has prompted deep reflection within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with some members expressing disappointment over the unexpected outcome.

One such figure is Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, who has openly shared his thoughts on the party’s performance and the internal struggles that contributed to its defeat.

In an interview on Lawson TV, Assafuah revealed that despite the NPP’s best efforts in Tafo, which has a voter base of approximately 34,000, the results fell short of expectations.

“Tafo has around 34,000 voters, but we distributed over 40,000 T-shirts,” he said, reflecting on the extensive resources invested in the campaign.

“Despite having more than enough paraphernalia, it ended up causing more problems than if we hadn’t distributed them at all.”

The former minister candidly addressed a fundamental issue that he believes hindered the party’s efforts.

“The problem we faced, Senior, is not that the NPP didn’t perform well – that’s simply not true. The issue was that the expectations of our people weren’t met, especially those who have been loyal to the NPP for many years but received nothing in return,” he explained.

Assafuah acknowledged the frustration among party loyalists, who had worked tirelessly for the NPP, hoping their support would be recognized and rewarded in meaningful ways.

“I understand their pain and share their frustration,” he admitted. The reality of unmet expectations became a significant factor in the party’s loss, leaving supporters disillusioned.

Despite this, Assafuah expressed a sense of optimism. “I was hopeful they would be patient, believing that after the NPP’s victory in the December 7 election, they would be rewarded,” he said.

However, in light of the unexpected results, Assafuah now recognizes the importance of addressing these concerns directly and prioritizing the needs of loyal supporters to rebuild trust and unity within the party.
