The opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) says although the latest Economic Intelligence Unit(EIU) Report predicts victory for the NPP in the upcoming 2016 elections, the survey is by no means a forgone conclusion for the party

vis-à-vis its chances in the November polls.

Deputy general secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahene said the party will not be carried away by the report, insisting that it will be much focused to work harder to consolidate an NPP victory in the parliamentary and presidential polls.

“We’re not leaving everything to chance-We are going to the the nooks and cranny to conduct our campaign, so we’ll not bank our hopes in this prediction” Obiri Boahene told Accra-based Joy FM.

The latest Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted that Ghana’s wobbly economy and the energy problems will not favour the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

The prevailing conditions, the EIU report said, rather places the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the lead in next year’s elections.

The report suggested that given the little time to the main elections slated for November this year, the government is unlikely to tame the country’s economic challenges, a situation that the NPP may capitalize on to win next year’s elections in a very close contest.

Meanwhile, the ruling NDC says the economic stabilization which aspects of the EIU report predicts is only as a result of the solid foundation by the Mahama-led government.
