A New Patriotic Party (NPP) group in the Eastern Region, Eastern Patriots, has said its members will defend themselves from attacks by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the police will not protect them.
“We cannot sit and preach peace all the time whilst the very Police Service, which is supposed to maintain law and order, is deeply asleep with the government to brutalise the opposition,” a statement from the group said.
The group accused the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, of being behind the attacks on the opposition and, therefore, called on the police to protect them and bring those who foment trouble to book or they protect themselves by any means possible.
“The unfortunate and barbaric behaviours are being exhibited by the very Chief Of Staff, Julius Debrah, and Margaret Ansei in the Suhum constituency. The Ghana Police Service is telling Ghanaians they haven't heard of the NDC attacks on the NPP leaders and supporters. This has to be stopped by those who have been assigned to maintain law and order in this beautiful country before it gets out of hands,” it said.
The statement added: “The NPP youth across the Eastern Region should immediately arm themselves and not spare any barbarian who attacks them anywhere. We can do more than they are doing if the Ghana Police Service is proving biased.”
