The Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said that although President Akufo-Addo may have done something to offend them, they should forgive and work in a united front.

"The president may have done something to hurt you, but equally, many of us have had the opportunity to serve under his government, either within the first four years or even in injury time.

"Even for those of us who are injury-time appointees, we are celebrating. How much more are those of you who had four years in government or six years in government? Don’t give up. Let us work together and win more."

He also urged the parliamentarians and commended them for their support through their steadfastness and resilience: “Although we had a tight parliament, we have a majority of one. We’ve worked so hard and have succeeded thus far.

"But we have a few months ahead of us. I want to encourage you: please make yourself available and support the course of government. Let’s finish hard. There is a prize awaiting us. And to all parliamentary candidates, let me plead with you: enough of the reconciliation. Let’s move on, fight hard, campaign day and night, and go to every household.

"We don’t have time to settle disputes. Fight for this party the way you fight to save a mother. Fight for this party. We need our numbers in Parliament.

"In the 2020 elections in the Central Region, our president won 19 seats in the region but just 10 seats in Parliament. That is why we are having challenges. We don’t want that again under the Bawumia government. Let’s get our numbers and win together.”

The Effutu lawmaker noted that there was a need for them to campaign hard because the party has done better than any government in the Fourth Republic.

Speaking about Dr. Bawumia, the Majority Leader’s understanding of the complex 21st-century global economy and his commitment to innovation, coupled with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s proven track record in education reforms and visionary energy sector leadership, offer Ghana a leadership team ready to take Ghana to the next level.

He made the remarks at the launch of the party’s manifesto over the weekend.
